This Atlantic Canadian course was built along the Brudenell
River estuary and its surrounding wetlands. The project was added to an
existing 18-hole course making it the only 36-hole complex with learning academy
in eastern Canada. Dundarave offers breathtaking views of the Brudenell River
and the surrounding countryside. The golf course meanders through dense forest,
around large wetlands, and over hills that it will share with a major housing
development. Dundarave is considered one of the top two courses on PEI.

This historic site that was once a hunt club for the Dupont
family has been transformed into what we feel is an outstanding championship
golf course that takes
advantage of very rugged terrain. The course has great balance with a good
blend of long and short holes to challenge all skill levels. Attention to
detail is one of Fieldstone’s main characteristics. The stonewalls that
line much of the course were built with stones excavated on site, and all the
old ruins were preserved and made part of the course. Fieldstone Golf
Club’s unique 12th hole has been rated highly, and was featured in LINKS
magazine.

Routed over 700 acres of woodland, the tree
lined fairways of Wescott
Plantation
offer a wonderful sense of isolation. While straightforward in its design,
the course features a lot of variety and many options for the golfer.
Though each nine stretches to over 3,500 yards, there are enough teeing options
for the golfer to choose the level of challenge they desire. Wescott
Plantation is owned and operated by the City of North Charleston. |

This ultra exclusive, very high-end private club is routed
through
what were once fertile fields and pastures, equestrian trails and woodlands.
The vision for Hamilton Farm began in 1911 when James Cox Brady decided to
join other wealthy New Yorkers by creating an English country estate in the
green fields and woodlands of the Somerset Hills. Named for his wife's
family Mr. Brady's lifelong labor of love is home to the United States
Equestrian Team. It is also home to what we feel are two outstanding golf
courses. The
Highlands Course is a 7,100-yard championship layout. The
Hickory Course, in the tradition of Augusta National and Pine Valley, is Hamilton Farm’s short course. Hamilton Farm boasts a proud history.
Once
the country home and fox hunting retreat of the Brady family, for over a
quarter of a century the home of the U.S. Equestrian Team, is now also the
home of Hamilton Farm Golf Club, destined to be, according to The New York
Times, "One of the world's most exclusive golf courses."

Harbor Links was built as part of the reclamation of an old
sand and gravel quarry. The golf course gives golfers a great sense of
isolation from the traffic and homes on highly developed Long Island. Within
sight of the Manhattan skyline, Harbor Links is one of the most popular courses
in the New York Metropolitan area playing over 40,000 rounds per year.

The Denver suburb of
Westminster is a vibrant and dynamic community with a good balance of
residential, commercial and public areas. The city management consists of
freethinking innovators who want to preserve traditional values but keep their
community on the leading edge of progress. This attitude attracted a large
development company that saw value in producing an upscale
office
park around an equally upscale public golf course. A public-private partnership
deal was struck. The developer would build the office park and deed the adjacent
land to the city on the stipulation that the city would build and operate a golf
course.
For years, Hurdzan/Fry had tried to get a project in
Colorado without success. So when we were asked to interview for the Westminster
project we poured our heart and soul into the proposal, interview, and follow-up
process. We had the talent, history and the commitment to do the job, and it
must have showed, for we were selected. Then began a very different kind of golf
course planning challenge for us, of integrating a golf course within a large
office park complex while also respecting wetlands, flood plains, some ancient
trees, some dramatic topography and a couple of prairie dog towns.
The full name of the golf course is The Heritage Golf
Course at Westmoor, and does the place ever resemble a moor. The golf course was
routed to leave as much native plant material as possible between the holes, and
the irrigation system was designed so as not to water them and change their
character.

Jericho features 13 “links” type golf holes; the other five
are very heavily wooded. The entire course is set in a big valley framed by
large hills. Jericho National has already become one of the best private
clubs in the Philadelphia area. They had a nearly complete membership
before the grand opening, and a waiting list shortly after that.

The River Course at Keystone was built at 8,000 feet and
offers dramatic elevation changes. From various locations on the course golfers
have views of the
Continental Divide, Ten Mile Range, Buffalo Mountain, and the Gore Range.
Golf Digest says, “The front nine meanders along the bubbly Snake River, while
the back threads through lodge pole pine forests and climbs and falls more
precipitously than the Dow Jones Industrial Average.” The 496-yard par
four 16th hole features a 200-foot vertical drop from tee to green.
Keystone was completed in the fall of 1999 and opened in the summer of 2000. |

Olde Stonewall showcases three
very different styles of golf
holes, i.e. mountain, river, and open “links” style holes. The course has many
very memorable and some incredible rock wall features. Carved out of the side
of a mountain with dramatic elevation changes and awesome vistas, Olde Stonewall
is one of our most memorable designs. Olde Stonewall is rated 1st among Golf
Magazine’s “Top Ten You Can Play.”

Philadelphia Cricket Club Flourtown,
Pennsylvania
Golf Course Web Site www.philacricket.com
Philadelphia Cricket
Club is a storied Philadelphia area institution that has hosted several U.S.
Opens at the turn of the 20th century.
The
completion of our 18-hole expansion and practice facilities fulfills a decade's
old desire by the club to expand its membership. The new golf course was
designed as an older style course in that it favors walking and features mellow
grading and bunker styles. The golf course utilizes a stream that crosses the
golf holes to facilitate strategic shotmaking. The site’s history is also
celebrated with historic limekilns being exposed to view on three different
holes.

Quicksand is located in an arid climate, much
like a desert complete with mesquite trees and barrel cactus. The course
features an enormous irrigation system that enabled us to create extremely large
turf areas. Quicksand has over 100 sand bunkers with very high and in some
cases dramatic faces. Quicksand was an Honorable Mention choice of Golf
Digest panelists for “Best New Public Course.” |

At an elevation of over 8,500 feet this course provides many
breathtaking
mountain views. The layout, which can play over 7,500 yards, has
numerous dramatic
elevation changes, mountain streams, and natural woodlands. It’s hard to
compete with the awesome majesty of the Colorado Rockies, but playing The Raven
at Three Peaks comes close. We worked with PGA Tour Professional Tom
Lehman on this project.

The Tavern Creek course was built as a complement to an
existing Moorish/Weiskopf layout in a very upscale housing development. The
course is set in a valley
surrounded by hills as high as 250 feet above the Missouri River. The
natural setting is its greatest feature, and everyone that plays it talks about
how the course blends into it. The golf course is just a small portion of
the 5,200-acre housing development. Tavern Creek rated 4th in the voting
for Golf Digest’s “Best New Private Course." |
|
Troy Burne was designed in collaboration with PGA Tour
Professional Tom Lehman. The course is open “links” style with lots of bunkers,
and many native grass areas between holes. The contouring matches the contour
of the surrounding countryside, giving the golf course a very large look and
feel. Troy Burne has been rated an Honorable Mention choice for Golf Magazine’s
“Top Ten You Can Play.”

WeaverRidge is one of the finest sites we have ever worked on
with much of the golf course nestled between deep ravines and picturesque
valleys above the scenic
Illinois River in an area carved by glaciers. WeaverRidge is already
becoming known as one of the top courses in the Midwest. WeaverRidge
finished second, (within 0.04 points of a Pete Dye design that cost 5 million
dollars more than WeaverRidge) for Golf Digest’s “Best New Upscale Public
Course” award. |

Widow’s Walk is earning an incredible amount of national and
international attention, for it is part of one of the country’s most closely
monitored scientific experiments. It is the centerpiece of an ambitious
data-gathering plan that should help make golf courses more ecologically sound.
The site plan shows various “resource” areas including
wetlands, public water sources, and other protected areas. The site had
previously been mined for sand and gravel and much of the native vegetation had
been lost, and has been re-planted. Creeping fescue grass was chosen for
fairways and roughs because of its low requirement for water, fertilizer and
pesticides. Below the bentgrass greens, monitoring stations are recording all
manner of vital signs and chemical leachates. These putting surfaces have
expanded our knowledge of golf greens in North America for each one has been
built to slightly different parameters. The goal was to use over 50% of the
water, fertilizer and pesticides used on other area courses and encourage a wide
diversity of wildlife, while offering an exciting affordable public golf
course.
The Golf Course superintendent’s Association of America has
presented Widow’s Walk with its prestigious “Environmental Steward Award.” In
addition, Widow’s Walk received Golf Digest’s acclaimed “Environmental Leader in
Golf” Award. Golf Digest has also named it among the “Top Ten Best New
Affordable Public Courses.” |
